For moderate rain, 1mm diameter raindrops make up the largest part while 2mm diameter raindrops dominate for heavier rain. 3−5mm raindrops only become important for very heavy rain, while 6−7mm raindrops only carry a tiny fraction of precipitation water even for violent rain rate
